Adam Lallana 'Has Skills Of Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas'

Mar 31, 2014 12:45 PM

Adam Lallana has 10 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season for Southampton.

Mauricio Pochettino believes Lallana is one of the best midfielders in the world and he has possibly earned a spot on Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup.

"We haven't seen a player like that in this country for a long time," Pochettino told reporters.

"Lately he has had a number of opportunities to get into the England national side so that is a very good thing for him.

"I am always telling him that he has the characteristics of a Spanish player and he has the skills of an [Andres] Iniesta, Xavi or [Cesc] Fabregas."

UEFA League Of Nations Tourney Will Provide World Cup Qualifying Spots

Mar 26, 2014 1:57 PM

UEFA's new 'League of Nations' tournament will see some countries win qualifying places for the World Cup and European Championship.

It will be played biennially in odd-numbered years on dates reserved for friendlies and begin after the 2018 World Cup with a semifinals and final at a neutral venue.

The new tournament would not replace the current qualifying competitions for those major events, but it would award the four qualification spots that are currently decided by the playoffs.

Julian Green Chooses United States Over Germany

Mar 19, 2014 11:13 AM

Julian Green will announce that he has decided to play for the United States.

Green has dual citizenship with the United States and Germany.

Green played for Germany in U19 competition after playing for the USA in U18.

Green plays winger for Bayern Munich.

Last week, Klinsmann told USsoccer.com that if Green decided to represent his birth nation, he'll have a chance to make the 23-man squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

"This is a player who has tremendous potential going forward," Klinsmann said. "I think there's a strong chance to see him rather sooner than later and there's also a chance for him to break even into this World Cup roster. But first he has to make this decision and we go from there."

Álvaro Arbeloa Out 6-8 Weeks With Knee Injury

Mar 16, 2014 12:21 PM

The right knee injury to Álvaro Arbeloa is more serious than originally thought.

Carlo Ancelotti initially believed Real Madrid would be without Arbeloa for approximately three weeks, but it now appears as though he'll be out for far longer.

Arbeloa said that the injury was worse than he thought “but if everything goes well, I’ll be out from six to eight weeks.” He added: “Hopefully, I make it back in time to play in the Champions League final if Madrid make it and the World Cup if I’m picked.”

With that much time out of the lineup, Arbeloa's spot on Spain's World Cup team is certainly in peril.
